Medical. Specialty ! Specialists t ~ Draw on Natu< c : she compels you to honour the acceptance. fjnHIRTY years since, when Db Smith first JL commenced practice here, it was thought by medical men that to be a specialist was derogatory to the professional man, but this, like most other innovations in scientific and lay matters, was found rather to aid than to be "infra dig." to that profession wherein the specialty was practised. Lallemand and Ricord iv France, and Action in England, wers for ycara cried down by their medical brethren. Now and for many years past they bave been looked up to and quoted by every man who pretends to hare any knowledge ol the particular branch of the profession which thc.u- gentlemen specially devoted theimelves to. It n M tba same with Erasmus Wilson, the " Skin Doctor," rrc*»ntly knighted by her Slajrfity. Years since it was the same with Dr L. L. Smith, of Melbourne, who practised "(as dM Lallemand and Ricord) as a specialist. In all cases of diseases and habita which produce symptoms of Nervous Affections, of Skin Eruptions, Prostration, and make human beings invirile, or which unfit 'them to carry on the • purposes of their being, or which demonstrates itself, on the other hand, in Eruptive Disease*and Secondary Forms of Affections; in all of these cases how necessary it is to have the Specialist who has devoted his whole lifetime to the studying and practising in this oae branch of his profession. Hence now, after so many years, all minntiae are familiar to him, and symtoms which (it is not unreasonable to suppose) may not strike the general practitioner at once, now, from constant practice and observation, make Db L. L. Smith master of the 6ubjeot, The medical profession— that fa, the more liberal-minded of them— have likewise recognised this fact, and Specialists now in every branch — oculists, aurists, sypbilic, mental diseases, chest diseases, and in fact every portion of the human frame, has now some member of the profession who devotes his time to that and to none other. For instance, tho 11 chest doctor " would on no aocount attend'an accouchement, andtfte oculist would not think of setting & broken leg; but each would advise his patient to goto that doctor who is most famed for treating the disease requiring special skill. Db L. L. Smith asks those who require tre*t« ment for Weakness, Prostration, Barrenness, and Sterility, whose frames and whose constitutions are shattered, to consult him as an expert. Thirty (30) years' practice in this colony, with a practice extending throughout not only tio colonies, but in India, China, Fiji, and evenTrl bngland, his claims ought to bo sufficient to cause every man or woman requiring such B yil as is alluded to above, to consult him either personally or by letter. 4 As a Sphilographer, no other medical man has been able to have such large experience as he possesses, and for other allied affectionssuch as Nervous Diseases — no one in the profession has enjoyed co much publio confidence, DR L.
