Mr Skene reports under date July 3 :— Although the demand for country people is gettimr better, there is still vast room for improvement. Ir farmers saw a rift in the dark cloud they would double bank their hands. Cheap money is the lever needed, and evidently that is near at hand. To our ahame outsiders have wore faith in New Zealand than ourselves. Lnte wages— Couples, £65, £70, and £75; ploughmen, 17s 6d and 20s; labourers, 16s; shepherds, £55 ; milkers, 10s, 12s, 15s, and iOs ; cooks. 20s and 25b ; grooms, 15s ; gardeners, 20s ; boots, 15s ; bushraen, 4s and 5s per cord, &c.
