Wo hive pleasure ia intimating th»t we have secured the SOLE AGENCY for New Zealand, and append some particulars about this new product from the Publio and Medical Press:— SACCHARINE. THE NEW SWEETENER. Made from Co,al Tar, under Messrs FAHtBBRo and Lisa's Patent, a.ad which is 300 times sweeter than Sagar itself. Daring the past two months, many of the leading Pharmacists of Britain have given great attention to this artiole, owing to its value in medioine as a Dietetic Sweetener, it having been proved to have no effect upon diabetic and gouty subjeots. Not only ia SACCHARINE invaluable in all pharmacy, bat also in all domestic uses, Fruit Preserving, Brewing, Wine Fortifying, Tobacco Sweetening, Mineral Waters, Syrups, Essences, Ac., and ev4ry ctay fresh uses are developing. SACCHARINE ii, in addition to its Sweetening Qualities, a Good Antiieptio, and is unfermentable and nncryatalllßable, hence it has advantages possessed by no other products.' For instance, in pharmacy in all cases where sugar is used only as a flavouring agent— as in Syrup of Phosphate, of Iron, Baaton'3 Syrup, so.— in many or which the great difficulty has been to prevent crvsteiysajtion. In all disagreeable oompounds, suoh as mixtures containing soda, Baucylate, caicjjra sagrada, quinine, &p,, it has great power in covering the objectiottabte tastes. IN DOMESTIC USES, fora}l purDOS.es in whjph sugar is geeded as a BW(§et^6r, ifc is invajntibte, as it cannot possibly affeot th^,sjrs{e.m, and m>y be used by everyone, irrespective of age or condition : is inocuous in 80 grain doses daily,' having no effect even on the appetite orjdigestion. Half to l*gr will sweeten a cup of tea or coffge. It retards fermentation where su(^r wonld promote it. One of the largest cpn'feotioners in' Borland is now using it in their loseoge factory. JAM MAKING. Ifc wiH not be necessary to'ooil in order to make it k^ep, and nb crystallisation will 1 take place, and the fr,uli instead of being all mashed up will be in the original form. THa cost w^ll be abfjtit the same as using sugar, but i no loss will be caused by the scum which always rises under the present system. BREWING. This is important). A London firm has just settled a monoply which will cover 40 million barrels of beflf. From the fact of it being nnfermentable, it cannot be used for making worts, but as a sweetener or purifier after the beer is brewed. Eeer sweetened with Saccharine will not fret, and is not affected by temperature. . WINE FORTIFYING. - : Wine may be sweetened without fear of fermentation, and a saving at llast of 50 pec imp. effected in the amount 61 spirit ueoesaarr tio pseaerve the tftae affer the .addition of tho sweetener, if Saooharirie is used. "Wine thua forhfi<sa can be imported into Engjand at tho lower rata of duty payable on French wines. t| is believed that if Saccharine is used, the addition of sniri.t will be os'ly required to fceea the wine bright when diluted, and not as a pre* servattve as at present. « SACCHARINE • being fully 300.timoa sweeter than Cane Sugar ip is possible to detect the sweet taste whea ona part ia dissolved in 70,000 parts of distilled water— i.e., one grain per gallon. It is sparingly soluble in cold water, more so in warmi thoroughly so in spirits and in water containt- a bicarbonate soda; and to meet the difficulty if insolubility in water, a soluble salt is being mtJa to make it perfectly soluble in water. Consumers can eithar have the pure Saccharine or the Saoobarine which contains SO 92 per cent, of the pure. j Our first supply of Saccharine is just to | hand, and we are also now prapared to take indents from consumers. Although we have secured the absolute* right of handling all importations of Saccharino to the colony, we have determined to make tijA terms satisfactory to buyers. -v ' "" **• '" KEMPTHORNE, PROSSER, & CQ.'S HEW 3E AIbAHB . i DRUC4 COM^ASnr, JBALANDIA SHEEP DIP.
