ASHBURTON TRADESMEN'S RACING CLUB. (From the Press.) ' The Ashburton Tradesmen's Racing Club held ' their annual fixture on Friday last. Tha follow- ' ing are the results of the various events :— HURDLE RACE-HANDICAP^ Of 2osovs ; second horse ssovs from the stake. One milo and a-half. 2. . Mr , J Shaw's b g Picuauini, aged, Ost 31b (Blackmore) & Ravenswood (list 101b), Panic (list 71b) ' Nero (ll sw iuo. 2lb over), Kate (inc. 4lb over), also started. Nero aud Wrangler quickly showed in front, and led past the stand with Kate and Squib ia close attendance. Nero at ,the back of thecourse was leading Wrangler by a. couple' of " lengths, the rest of the field about three lengths off. Squib, on nearing the top of the-'course. ran into second place, and Kate and Panic tailed . off. Squib led Wrangler into the straight, and lauded the stakes oopafortably by a couple of lengths from Wrangler, three lengths separating .the second and thirds Nero was fourth. Time 3min lOsec. Rose (7st 101b), Glenlora (7st 71b), Miss Webster (7st 71b), Little Arthur (6st 21b), Iroquoise (7sfc 51b, inc. 181b over), also started. Glenlora and Little Arthur led the field < till nearing the turn into the straight, when all the horses closed .well up together, and a pretty race ensued down the straight, Temuka coming to the front and winning a good race from Jack by a bare length, Meada close up third. Mr O G Primmer's b g Random, aged, 25aec (Owner) 2 26 Mr E Price's b m Minnie, 4yrs, 4(Jsec (Owner) 3 Bismarck (20sec), Wakanui (25sec), Shepherd Boy (35sec), Robin Hood (55sec), Avalanche (60sec), Melrose (7Oseo) also started. Primrose quickly passed Avalanche and Melrose, as did also Minnie. Primrose continued to improve her position and won with the greatest ease by considerably over 100 yds. Minnie held second place till entering the rails, where Random passed her. Tot'alisator— 23s— 2l— £lo Is. LADIES' BRACELET, 'Of2osova. One mile. Miss Grigg'e eh g Union Jacjt 4yrs, lOat (Lewis) \ Miss Pitt's g m Squib, syrs, lOst 91b (Owner) * Mias Simmons' gra Kate, aged, lOst 51b (Owner) 3 Daddy Longlegs (lOat 41b), Aurora (list 91b), Hero (lOst), Wrangler (lOat), Sunbeam (lOst), Iroquois (9at 101b), Bradfield (9st 71b), also started. Squib and Bradford had the best of a very straggling start, and Irquois was left at the post. Squib led for half a mile, but Jack went to the front, and on entering the straight came away and won with a comfortable three lengths to spare from Squib, with Kate third. Time, lmin 42sec. Totalisator— lsß— 39— £3 12s 6d. FLYING HANDICAP. . Of 2580V8. Six furlongs. 99. Messrs M and 0 Hobbs' b g Jack, aged, lOst 71b (CHobbs) 1 Mr J C N Grigg's b g Mountain Deer, 6yrs, Bst 41b (Cochrane) 2 Mr S Alexander's eh g Doubtful, 4yrs, 7sf 71 D (M'Grath) 3 Glenlora (7st 81b), Moss Rose (7st 71b), Goldfinch (7st), Olive (6st), Express (6st) also Btarted. Authentic, Temuka, and Annie Laurie were scratched. Glenlora led to the home turn, where Jack came to the front. All, with the exception of Jack, were under the "whip coming down the straight, and Jack won by two lengths, with plenty in hand, from Mountain Deer, Doubtful a good third. Time, lmin I7sec. Totalisator — 220-99-£2. CONSOLATION HANDICAP, Of lOsovs. One mile. 28. Mr Rutherford's b m Miss Webster syrs, 7st (M'Morriu) 1 68. Mr Coulter's b m Meada, 4yrs, 7st 13lb (Cochrane) 2 Miss Webster won a capital race by a neck. Totalisator— B6— 2B-£2 8s 6U
