The article' goes on ta say that in the event of an engagement between, the British and Russian ironclads in the Pacific, the defeat .of the British China squadron could only be averted by a miracle. • ■ •• ' ' May 11. Mr W. H. Smith has given notice in the House of Commons of a resolution as the basis of a bill to provide funds for the equipment of an auxiliary squadron. Berlin, 1 May 10. The Kreiz Zeitung denies that Prince Bismarck's peaceful utterances are justified, as it is now evident that Europe is an immense volcano, and that an outbreak is inevitable. . Sofia, May 10. Prince Ferdinand, in faddressing the Tirnova regiment, said be was prepared to repeat the oath and become a Bulgarian. The achievement of the. independence of Bulgaria would to him be a sacred task, and he was ready to sacrifice his life in securing it. ' May 15. M. Stambouloff has made a formal complaint to Servia of the incursions of armed bands on the frontier. Vienna, May 15. The Government organ declares that the, situation in the East is intolerable, and that the Powers must soon take decisive measures to end the suspense with or without the assistance of Russia. St. Petersburg, May 11. The Novosti states that England's warlike intentions are evidently intended to enable her to take part in a struggle should it arise, and is evidence that she continues to pursue manifestly an aggressive policy. (Special to Press Association.) Berlin^ May 14. There is increasing irritation in Government circles at Russian financial measures, and legislation aimed at Russian securities is impending.
