Dunediu Chess and Draughts Club.
There was a splendid muster cf the members of the club in the Coffee Palace last night to witness the presentation of a handsome volume of '• Universal History," beautifully illustrated, to Mr William Houston, ex-president, who leaves on Thursday fir-st to settle in Melbourne.
Mr John P. Bell, the president, referred in happy terms to the great interest Mr Houston had always displayed in the welfare of the club. He was well known to be one of the strongest players in tl>e colony, and he felt sure he \*ould worthily represent, the club in Victoria. He had much pleasure in presenting this book as a memento of the kind wishes of the members, and he sincerely hoped that ho would have a prosperous career wherever his lot may be cast.
Mr Houston very feelingly replied, and referred in modest terms to the brotherly feeling that bad always characterised the members of the club to each other. He would treasure this book hb long us he lived, and whenever be read it be would always remember the happy eveuings spent in the club. A number of 'frkndly g.unes were afterwards played.
