FOOTBALL.

NOTES BY FORWARD. (Continued from page '26.1

The reason why the O.R.ff.U. refused to take action in the matter of free passes for tbe English team is that tbe venture is purely a speculative one on the part of Mr Lillywhite. Under the circumstances the committee of the unicccould not see their way to ask for free passes. Only one club has replied to the invitation of the O.R.F.U. asking for the views of clubs regarding the proposed club room. Secretaries are requested to at once communicate with the secretary of the union stating what support they are likely to give the project. A meeting, which was fairly well attended was held at Watson's Hotel on Thursday evening, when it was resolved that a second club to play under association rules should be formed in Dunedin, and Messrs M'Gregor, Le Cren, and Gibbs were appointed a committee to draw up rules to be submitted for confirmation at a general meeting to be held next week. Several names were suggested as the title of the new club, but settlement of this question was deferred until next meeting.

The following teams have been chosen to play on the Caledonian ground on Saturday, 14th inst. Play to begin at 2.30 p.m. sharp. Players are requested to be punctual, as the Dunedin Olub are to have a practice when the trial match is over :— Blues — Full back— Austin ; three-quarter backs— Brodrick, Downes, Noel; half backs— Thomson and Keogh; forwards— Beck. Gibson. Hunter, A W Morris, M'farlane. Martin, Montgomery, Morrison (captain), and Wales. Colours.— Full back— Thomas (Oamaru) ; three-quarter backs— Bee, Lovegrove, W Thomson; half backs— Croxford, Simpson; forwardsDouglas, Drabble, Fache. Isaacs, M'Kay, Sonntag, Turnbull, Torrance. Treseder (captain), and Wright. Players who cannot attend the trial matches are requested to at once notify the secretary of the fact.
