COERCION IN IRELAND.

Dublin, April 6.

Father Kennedy and 12 farmers have been sentenced to three months' imprisonment for attending a League meeting at Newmarket, Cork, which had been proclaimed.

. In consequence of the determination of the Nationalists to hold a meeting, tho police and troops were held in readiness at Loughrea, Gal way. Mr W. O'Brien, M. P., commenced to address the meeting, but the police interfered, and a conllict ensued, ihiring which 30 persons were injured. Finally the crowd was dispersed.

Dr Charles Tanner eluded the police and addressed a meeting outside Macroom, 19 miles west of Cork, at 6 o'clock in the evening. The crowd on returning to town was charged by the police and dispersed.

In other pares of Clare and Cork conflicts occurred between the people and police, many being injured on both sides. Order was restored by the evening.

April 9

There have been collisions between the troops and Nationalists at Ennis and Kilrush, in which several people were sabred by the troops. At Ennis 75 arresis were made.

Messrs Davitt, Healy, O'Brien, and Tanner were very active, and strong attempts to hold surprise meetings were made, but tho efforts in this direction were checked by tho police.

No fatalities are reported in connection with tbo recent attempts to hold meetings, but several people were seriously hurt by tho sabres of the cavalry. At Ennis the Hussars drove the people before them singing " Rule Britannia."
