We are pleased to Jearn that a Chess and Draughts Club has just been started at Gordon with every prospect of success. From what we have learned there is likely to bea great " boom " in draughts this season, especially in Southland.
The game of draughts is spreading all over the world. We have just received an early number of the " Chcckerist," published weekly in Tavares, Florida, by Stephen Terry. Subscription, Idol a year. It promises to be a lively production, as it commences with a Problpm Tourney, open to the world, with a first prize of £2.
We are glad to learn that the game is receiving increased attention in the towns of Oamaru and Lawrence. We know of some good players in these districts, and we shall he pleased to hear of the establishment of strong clubs shortly.
