It is about four miles long by three wide, and embosomed as it is in the primeval forest, which surrounds it on all sides like a silver mirror set in a framework of living green, it is alone a sight worth the trip. Excellent duck shooting is got in tho season, and pigeons and kalcas are plentiful in the surrouuding bush. Eels of enormous size abound in its voters, while on its bosom gracefully glide the black swan, giving life and colour to the scene. Toiling up the corduroy beautiful bits of woodland scenery are met; with which would gladden the heart of an artist. Here a bower of ferns, overshadowed by the feathery fronds of the tree fern, forms a fairy scene fit for the couch of Oberon and his queen. There a lordly monarch of the forest towers aloft to the sky in silent majesty, soon, alas ! to be the prey of the woodman's ruthless axe.
