cal. . .-uiallsfs I Oraw on Nan. I .-c rompel* yon t» honour it it ttv'KfptHUCft' THIRTY years since, wima Db Saintf fiVst commenced practice here, it waa thought by medical men that to be a specialist was derogatory to the professional man, but this, like most other innovations in scientific and lay matters, was found rather to aid than to be "infra dig." to that profession wherein the specialty was practised. LaUemand and KicotJ in France, and. Action in EngUndi were lot years cried devn by their iaed:t.al brethren. Now aud for many years past they have &«#» looked up to and quoted by every man who ptetends to have any knowledge of the particulai branch of tho profession which these gentlemen specially devoted themselves to. 1 6 was tha same with Eraßmns Wilson, the " Skin Doctor,* 1 recently knighted by her Majesty. Years since it was tbe same with Dr L. L. Smith, of Melbourne, who practised (as did Lallemand and Ricord) as a specialist. In all cases of diseases ana habits which produce symptoms of Nervous Affections, of SUm Eruptions, Prostration, aud make human beings invirile, or which unfit them to carry on the purposes ot theit being, or which demonßtr&t&i itself, on the .other hand, in Eruptive Diseases and Secondary Forms ef Affections; m all ©I these cases how necessary it is to hare t&a j Specialist who has' devoted his whole lifetime to ! the htudying and practising in this ose branci of his profession. Hence now, after so many years, all minutiae are familiar to him, and »ymtoms which (it is notlunre&sonablo to suppose) mRy not strike the general practitioner at once, now, from constant practice and observation make Dk L, L. Smith master of the subject. The medical profession — that is, the more liberal-minded of them — have likewise recognised this fact, and Specialists now in every branch — oculists, aurists, syphilic, mental diseases, chest diseases, and in fact every portion of the human frame, has now irome mem* ber of the profession who devotes his time to that and to none other. For instance, th* 11 cheek doctor " would on no account atteud an accouchement, nnd the oculist would not think of setting a broken, leg ; but each would advise his patient to go to that doctor who is most famed for treating the disease requiring special skill. Db L. L. Smith asks those who require treat* menfc for Weakness, Prostration, Barrennefs, and Sterility, whose frames and whose constitutions are shattered, to oonsult him as an expert. Thirty (30) years' practice in this colony, with a practice extending throughout not only the colonies, but in India, China, Fiji, and even in Euglaud, his claims ought to be sufficient to cause every man or woman requiring such skill as is alluded to above, to consult him either personally or by letter. As a Sphiiographer, no other medical man has been able- to have such largo experience as lie possesses, and for other allied affections— ?uch as Nervous Diseases — no oue in the protesion has enjoyed so much public cod Gdence.
