SHOT BY BUSHRANGERS.
Wood End, nine miles further on, was the place we made that night. It consisted of one publichouse and nothing more. The bush cxt&nded to Carlsruhe, but was of a much lighter character than the Black Forest. The first thing we heard next morning was that two men had been stuck up in the forest on the preceding day and robbed. One of them was shot through the body, and the choice of holding up his hand at so many paces, or to share the fate of his mate, was made to the other. He held up his hand and the cowardly villains coolly shot it off. Wo thought of our friends of the night before, and the pale, silent wife, and her baby.
