INSTRUCTIONS IN BRIEF.

Bedding plants to be propagated, but the work must be finished as speedily as possible. This is a good time to commence propagating calceolarias, which strike readily in a bed of light soil made up in a cold frame. Chrysanthemums in the border to be looked over and securely staked. Those in pofcs will require close attention and they should now be under cover.

Strawberries may still be planted but the season is going by for such work. The layers should be strong, plump, and well rooted.

Herbaceous borders to be looked over, and remove decaying stems so as to preserve an air of neatness in the garden. Stake those plants needing support. Apples and pears to be gathered as sqon as sufficiently ripe, but not before. Onions should be lifted as soon as sufficiently ripe, and stored away in a dry, airy place where they will be safe from frost. Seeds to be gathered and well dried. It is necessary to perform this work as soon as possible, as the seed is now ripening, and much will be lost if there is any delay.

Potatoes to be lifted and stored away as soon as sufficiently ripe. Store in a cool dry place where they will not be exposed to air and light. Bedding plants struck in the open border to be potted. Employ 60 sized pots and use a moderately light soil. Place the pots in a cold frame, and keep close for a few days to enable the plants to recover from the shift.

Weeds grow fast at this season, and the hoe must be kept well at work if the garden is to have a smart appearance.
