In the betting market there is a run in favour of Spade Guinea for the Newmarket Handicap. Yellow Jacket is also strongly favoured. Moorhouse is a firm favourite for the Cup at 6 to 1. Nelson stands next on the list at 10 io 1.

Mozart has been strongly supported for the Newmarket Handicap, and Yellow Jacket has receded in the betting. The latest quotations are :— IOO to 15 against Mozart ; 100 to 8 Mitrailleuse, Master John, Chicago, St. Odille, and Centaur; 100 to 7 The Queen and Cranbrook; 100 to 6 Yellow Jacket ; and 100 to 5 to 100 to 3 the others. For the Australian Cup : 100 to 17 against Moorhouse; 100 to 12 Oakleigh and Enfilade ; 100 to 10 Niagara, Bravo, and Nelson ; 100 to 8 Arsenal and Australian Peer ; 100 to 5 Dick Swiveller.
