LAND AND WATER.
A trout weighing about 151b was caught in the Otautau river the other day by Mr W. Affleck. A ChrUtchurch telegram states that the Canterbury Cricket Association have declined to play 18 against Lillywhite's team on the 23id and 24th at Lancaster Park. I b was resolved to play the return match at Hagley Park on March 29 and 31. A Sydney telegram states that the Australian Eleven will leave for England in the middle of March, but it is quite uncertain who will eventually go. There is now some prospect of Giffen, Horan, and Moses accompanying the team. The Mataura Ensign states that Superintendent Walter, of the Gore Fire Brigade, is not likely to accept the challenge thrown out by Skitch, of the Dunedin Brigade, for a foot race.
