LATE MINING.

THE CROMWELL MINE.

The trausfer of this mine from the new Cromwell Mining Company, Limited, to the Cromwell Gold Mining Company, Limited (the company formed by Mr Reeves in London), was completed on Wednesday, and work at the mine ■will now proceed with vigour. The mine engineer and manager (Mr Hilton) has been in Victoria for the last month arranging for pumps and machinery for the new main shaft, aud a cable message was sent to him to purchase and bring them over with him by the acxb steamer from Melbourne. Iv a few weeks it is expected the pumps will be fixed, and tenders will then be called for sinking the main shaft to the 500ffc level. This shaft is already sunk to a depth of 282 ft, and as there is only 220 ft to sink it is expected that within six months the stone at this level will be available for the battery. Tho Euglish shareholders will, we predict, have no reason to regret iuvesting money in this mine, aud the shareholders of the old company will have their valuable property fully developed at no further cost to them. The colonial directors of the company are Mr Thomas Brown and Mr John Mitchell, with Mr Reeves as managing director, and the gentlemen forming the London board of directors are Sir Charles Crawford, Bart, (chairman), and Messrs John Wallace, F. D. Campbell, and 6. B. Mcc, Lcndon merchants.
