LAND BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Land Board was held in the board's office, Government Buildings, on Wednesday, and was attended by the Caief Commissioner (J. P. Maitland, Esq.), and Messrs W. Dallas, J. Logan, H. Clark, and J M'Kenzie, M.H.R. Lauder.— Mr Simpson, on behalf of John Sheppard, the holder of perpetual lease Bection 5, block V, Lauder, applied for a deferred-pay-ment license in place of his perpetual lease. — Adjourned for a week. Maungatua.— J. Carr applied for section 13, block XI, and section 18, block IX, Maungatua ; and B. Hollinan also applied for the lasfcmentioued section.— Ranger Hughan recommended that section 13 should be granted to Mr Carr and section 18 disposed of by auction. — Recommendation of ranger approved.
The Ranger also recommended that section 12, block XI, and section 26, block IX, recently granted to A. Mann, should be subdivided into lots of from five to 10 acres each and sold. — A number of settlers wrote asking that the land should be cut up and sold.— The board decided that the granting of Mr Mann's application should be rescinded, and adjourned th'j other application for report of ranger. Havelock.— S. A. Bishop applied to purchase section 1, block X, Havelock township. Ranger Hughan recommended that the section should be sold, as it was required for uo public puruo.-e. —It was decided that the section should be offered as land of special value at £3 per acre, with improvements to the extent of £156, subject; to the approval of the Governor. Table Hill. — Mrs Eliza Nass applied for permission either to withdraw her application for a reduction of rent of section 28, block VII, Table Hill, or to surrender the same, as no valuation would be allowed for improvements. — Consideration deferred.
Tuapeka East. — Messrs Fraser and Stilling, solicitors, as agents, applied to purchase at £1 per acre sections 5 and 54, block V, Tuapeka East. — It was resolved that the land be advertised for application, it not having sold, provided that the resolution making it land of special value was rescinded. Coal License.— An application from the Dunedin Gold Dredging Co, for coal leases under the Coal Mines Act 1886 was made for 10 acres in block IX, Leaning Rock district. — License granted for three years &n £10 per annum, subject to the company not disturbing the surface of the area at present occupied by M'Naughton, and on condition that the company in working the pit supply the public with coal at a rate to be determined upon prior to the issue of the license.
Applications. — The board approved of the following applications : — D. T. JPleming, to complete purchase of section 9, block 111, Hyde. Ezekiel Mawhinney, to exchange agricultural lease for deferred-payment license of section 3, block XI, Naseby. David M'Connachy, to transfer perpetual lease of sections 42 and 46, Earnslaw, to Peter M'Connachy. To purchase rural land in block VIII, Dunedin, and Bast Taieri— William Orr, section 75 ; John Cumner, section 76 ; Daniel Jones, section 77 ; John C. Callender, section 78 ; John Harris, section 79 ; and William Jeffray, section 80.
Kingston. — Mr S. D. Trotter applied to the board to accept the surrender of Run 323, Kingston, to enable him to obtain the same at a lower rental than at present, the present rental being £100. — The board decided to forward the application for the consideration of the Government.
Blackstone. — Mr Simpson asked that sections 15, 16, 17, and 20, Blackstone district, which remained undealt with, be thrown open for selection as second-class lands. — It was decided that the land referred to should be classified.
Consideration of the remainder of the business was postponed until the next meeting of the board.
