WAIKOIKOI.

February 27.— We are told that patience fs a virtue. But I am afraid that few farmers possess this virtue now, as their patience has been over strained waiting for suitable weather for harvest operations. The weather we have had here lately has been just what we might expect in a bad winter. On Friday night, for instance, the frost was very severe, there being a considerable thickness of ice on tho water. The result i» anything but gratifying. Wheat crops mu&fc have suffered considerably, and the potatoes were in many instances levelled to the ground. School, — Our school is. now closed : for the harvest holidays.

Ov» RoADS.r~The county council have this year done little or nothing towards improving: the roads^ and mfc the grain traffic fast coming

on and every appearance of a wet autumn, the prospect of travelling over the main road with anything like a fair load is not very encouraging. In days gone by it was quite possible to escape the quagmire, but now all is changed, fences being met with both on the right and the left,, and the only alternative is to plough on regardless of consequences. Concert.— One of the most successful concerts ever held in Waikoikoi came off on Friday last, the occasion being the wind-up of Mr D. Thomas' singing class, when his pupils tendered him a complimentary benefit. The various items on the programme were gone through in a creditable manner, and a very pleasant evening was spent by all present. Mr Thomas has certainly effected a marked improvement in many of his pupils.
