{) ln reference to the weights the report, -•ates :—" xi ie results of weighing come out alike, not only with regard to the

gain per head, but also in the similarity of the daily totals of silage and water in the the one case and of hay and water in the other. The result is remarkable in another respect, as it would not have been generally expected that a diet of perfectly dry food, such as was given in the hay, cake, and meal, with water supplied separately, would give a result so nsarly equal to that obtained by the use of succulent food iv addition to the cake and meal. The hay having been by March 10 all consumed, the experiment was closed, although a little of the silage still remained.

The silos used were erected on the brick flooring of a barn, and were thus entirely above ground. The barn was about 21ft wide and of considerable length. The righthand end was divided by the raising of Din brick walls into three silos, each 6ft 2Ain wide, 20ft 6in deep (horizontally), and 16ft high, reaching nearly to the roof ; and the left-hand end by similar walls, into two silos, each 9ft Bin wide, 10ft deep, and Bft 3in high. The bottom and sides were carefully lined with cement, and each had a doorway open to the floor about 4ft wide, arranged to be closed with boards right up to the top. The boards used for closing the doorways had the edges cut in a jointed manner so as to fit into those of the next above, so also were the edges of the boards used for placing on the top of the material when pressure was applied.
