I nqd.dta, of harvest nowjnstead of at the end of ; ,it;, wit it is extraordjpary, how the farmer, as, well as every other kind of pauper, always manages to get a day's sport when he Makes up his mind for it, harvest or no harvest. Forthcoming Land Sales.— The Government advertisement of the land for sale by auction at the Dunedin Land Office on the 28th inst. docs not show much land in this neighbourhood. In the list of small grazing runs there appear two in the Nokomai district — one of 3750 acres, and the other of 3500 acres. Sections in the township of Waipahi also appear on the . list. On the same day and at the same time in Dunedin the Otago School Commissioners advertise a five-year lease of 17»000 \ acres in the Garvey and Wendonside districts now occupied by Mr, Qillanders, an,d on the same> day tenders close for 14-year leases of education reserves at Wyndham, acreage 1131 acres, 523 acres, and 045 acres respectively. A very long list of Crown lauds of various descriptlops is also given in the supplement to the New Zealand Government Gazette of the 2nd February, the land being open for selection for 4s) days from that date } the acreage runs from 50 to 640 acres, and prices vary from 10s an acre up to 355.
Our Roads — The waste of money in the days of rampant Vogelism is being bitterly felt now. The summer, such as it is, will coon be over, and there's no money, or precious little, to spend upon even the main roads. The road from Gore to Pukcrau is being looked after certainly, but there is a vast deal more to be done all round this district which will have to be left undone for want of funds.
