TAIERI FERRY.

February 13— A meeting of directors and shareholders in th« Henley Dairy Factory Company was held a short time aero for the purpose of considering its financial position. The meeting was a stormy on^. and its results so far as I can ascertain were nil. The management has from the start bfteu anything but a happy fimily, a fact which has militated against tbe factory's sucr;^- Th>'. chairman of directors is u:ara D i! hj ,-i!iirtv ii mr n the prerfj'ut stare ki n>attijrt- , but I do nnf think th<- tjlaine s-boui ! )>•.' laid on liis flfiving been at on? ti'.nej'n-; titxiatflj' couLC-cte'l Tt-jth ihe faofcory, in i&ct bciiag one o? its promoters, I feel sure t?:ci; the fault doer nor, ry.-.t with the" chsiirman. fche present unsatisfactory state which the company is in at present. The one great weakness, ■and -cause of all the present trouble, is want of «anifcy amongst the directors themselves. I have it ou. the best authority that the Henley Company who are the largest suppliers of milk, have stood out of their money for months in order that the other customers might be paid, and this, too, when they b.ad to pay for the milking of their own cows (300) every month. Waihola School Committee.— This committee met on the 11th inst., there being present—Messrs C. H. Morgan (chairman), William Smith, Daniel M'Gillivray, James Crane, and •Charles Borthwick. Miss Freeman, Mr Fraer, and Mr Wood received the vote of the committee for the vacant seats on the Education Board. Some surprise was expressed at a notice received from the secretary of the board re the reduction of the committee's grant coming into force this quarter. Tardy notice, surely, half the quarter having expired before steps could be taken to reduce the expenditure in accordance wifch, the smaller income.

Agricultural Notes.— Waihola : Harvest is general. It is difficult to say what the yield will be, owing to the late gales of wind. The loss will, I fear, be very serious throughout Ofcago. The turnip crop will not be up to the general average. I travel about the country continually and have not seen a heavy crop anywhere. The potato crop is also indiffer • ent, owing to drought. Henley : The crops will not be ripe for two or three weeks. They are, on tho whole, poor this year. Mr Stevenson, manager of the Henley estate, has a large stack, comprising about 100 tone, of ensilage. If it proves a success, no doubt many of the farmers will try it themselves next year. The Henley land is too wet in winter either to get turnips off the ground or to feed stock profitably on ; ensilage, therefore, should be of considerable use on all low ground for winter feed. The high winds of late have withered up the grass considerably. Otakia : Harvest is general. Extra hands are employed to restook tho sheaves which the wind has scattered all over the paddocks. Kuri Bush : Most of the grain in this district is cut ; the yield is poor. Potato and turnip crops are fair. Grass is still fairly plentiful. With reference to birds and rabbits, both of these pests have been more destructive than usual this year, especially vhe former. Travel where you will, the eye notices the havoc the birds have done. Really what will be the result of the destruction to crop 3by the wind, birds, and rabbits it is hard to say. How farmers manage to stand the many losses to which they are subject I dou't know.
