♦ A CASE OF SMALLPOX ON THE MARIPOSA.

Auckland, February 3. Tho Mariposa arrived flying the yellow flag having one case of smallpox on board. Tho disease appeared a day after leaving Honolulu, The patient, a passenger from San Francisco, was isolated, and no fresh cases have been reported. The New Zealand passengers are to be quarantined and the mails fumigated. Worth, the passenger who had smallpox, is to be taken on to Sydney, his destination. The steamer is not allowed to land her Auckland cargo, but takes it on to Sydney at once. Later, The passengers by the Mariposa will be landed at the quarantine island, Motu Ihi, tomorrow morning. The vessel proceeds to Sydney to-morrow, and the Auckland cargo will be landed in lighters.
