Chess Sews.
The Chess Congress in connection with the Melbourne Exhibition promises to bo a great success, not only from the value of the prizes, but also from the number of districts likely to bra represented. The great enthusiast, Mr Thos. Sexton, of Fielding, who is also well known as a problemist, has written to the chess column of the Wellington Weekly Mail urging steps to be at once taker\ to ensure. New Zealand being well represented. Mr R. J. Deighton, of Clyde, Hawke's Bay, in a subsequent number strongly supports the. idea. Wr will be glad to hear any suggestions from our chess readers. Glasgow v. Edinburgh. — A match between Edinburgh and Glasgow Chess Clubs took place in the former city, with 14 pincers a si.'c. Play was commenced at 3 p m and the match was over by 7 p.m. The result was a decided victory for Glasgow, the scores being— Glasgow, 2IJ games ; Edinburgh, s£. T!ir book containing nil the -Jo gimp* played in the major tournament, and a selection of those played in the minor tourney, in the iccent Adelaide Chess Congiess, will be publishel in a short time. The frontispiece will have a portrait of tho champion. Mr 11.
