Wakatipu Mining Notes. (From Oub Own Correspondent.)
NTERESTED.
Arrow, January 3.
Mineis and gold diggers alike have been making high jinks during the past week, and work has been pretty much allowed to take care of itself. There is therefore littlo nqws to report from any part of the district. Although private parties keep tlw amount of their gettings to themselves — for what reason it is difficult to divine— there is sufficient evidence to say that upon the whole the returns which have been obtained have proved satisfactory, and that the Christmas escort of 1887 will be an improvement upon that of many years past. None of the big ventures projected are amongst the contributors— indeed, very few havo made a start with even tho preliminaries— so that this result has been obtained from the old established mines solely, a fact which furnishes a reassuring proof of the permanence of our goldfield.
