Medioal. Specialty! Specialists ! Draw on Nature : »he compels you to honour the acceptance. nnHIftTY years since, when Db Smith first JL commenced practice here, it was thought by medioal men that to be a specialist was derogatory to the professional man, but this, like most other innovations in scientific and lay matters, was found rather to aid thau to Uu "infra dig." to that profession wherein the specialty was practised. Lalletnand and Hicortl in Franco, au4 Action in England, were for years cried down by their medical brethren. Now and for many years past they have been looked up to and quoted by every man who pretends tohavesny knowledge of the particutai branch of the profession which these gentlemen specially devoted themselves to. It was the same with .Erasmus Wilson, the " Skin Doctor," recently knighted by her Majesty. Years since it was the same with Dr L. L. Smith, of Melbourne, who practised (as did Lallemand and Ricord) as a special mt. In all cases of diseases ana habits which produce symptoms of Nervous Affections, of Skin Eruptions, Prostration, and make human beings invirile, or which unfit them to carry on the purposes of their being, or which demonstrates itself, on the [other hand, in Eruptive Diseases and Secondary Forms of Affections; in all ot these cases how necessary it is to have the Specialist who has devoted his whole lifetime to the studying and practising in thin one branch of his profession. Hence cow, after so many years, all minutiae are familiar to him, and uymtoins which, (it is not*. unreasonable to suppose) may not strike the general practitioner at once, now, from constant practice and observation make Da L. L. Smith master of the subject. The medical profession— that is, the moro liberal-minded of them— have likewise recognised this fact, and Specialists now in every branch — oculists, aurists, syphilic, mental diseases, chest diseases, and in fact every portion of the human frame, bas now £)me member of tbe profession who devotes his time to that and to none other. For instance, th» 41 chest doctor " would on no account attend an accouchement, and the oculist would npt think of setting a broken leg ; but each would advise his patient to go to that doctor who is most famed for treating tbe disease requiring special skill. Db L. L. Smith atks those who require treatment for Weakness, Prostration, Barrenness, and Sterility, whose frames and whose constitutions nre shattered, to consult him as an expert. Thirty (30) years' practice in this colony, with a practice extending throughout not only the colonies, but in India, China, Fiji, and evon in England, his claims ought to be 6uflicient to cause every man or woman requiring nuch skill as is alluded to above, to consult him either personally or by letter. As a Sphilographer, no other medical man has been able to have such largo experience as he possesses, and for other allied affections — .such as Nervous Diseases — no one in' the pro* fession has enjoyed so much publio cod* fidenoe.
