TAPANUI.

December 20.— Tho show just past was undoubtedly ona of the most successful ever held in Tapauui, and at no previous gathering has such a lar«e attendance been witnessed. This year the 6how was held on the racecourse, and although a little farther away from the town, the change proved to be a very advisable move, ai the large grounds and Bpacious new grand stand were great advantages to tho club. Tho'entries showed an increase all round of 25 per cent., and the competition in most cases was very keen. The display of dairy produce, as usual, was good, and great interest was taken in the contests for butter, &c. Mrs D. M'Kellnr and J. G. Bremner judged tho dairy produce, and gave every satisfaction. Pantomime. — In the evening, the pantomime produced by Mr H. Nash proved something of a novelty in this district, and considering the small Assistance Mr Nash had, the show may be said to be very creditable for amateurs. Mr Nash had a very good street scene painted, and also a transformation scene which was very neatly executed. A dance wound up the day's enjoyment. Shooting.— The Tapanui Gun Club held a series of shooting matches on Saturday last, the weather being very favourable. The prizes were— a fat pig (won by Mr John Perry), and a fat sheep and fat turkey (both being secured by Mr B. Harwood ). In the evening Mr Perry distributed his pig, and a good number rolled home with a share of the •' gnuiter." Caledonian SoOietv.— A meeting of this body w?i6 held ou Saturday evening, when th« judges, starters, haudicappers, and works committees were appointed for the forthcoming games. The services of the Gore brass band were ordered to be secured, if suitable terms could bP arranged. Sale.— Mr W. Quin held his annual stock sale on the morning after the show (Friday), when a considevable quantity of stock changed hands, the prices ruling very satisfactory. Draught horses brought a3 high as £10 103, and prime fat steers up to £6 58. Some farm implements were also disposed of at satisfactory rates. Prii-.e sheep sold very well. Wkatuku,— During the past week wo have had apleudid weather, and on all sides the crops are snaking rapid progress.
