NOTES BY FORWARD. The proposal to bring a team of English I Rugby footballers, to New Zealand will, I am I sure, be favourably received by the Rugby I Unions of this colony. The team— Mr Lilly. I white, who writes, says— wiil be composed of I most of the leading Rugby players in England, I many of them being international representa- I tives. Should such ' a team come out there is I not the slightest doubt but that they will meet I wifch a grand reception both, in New South I Wales, Queensland, .aud in New Zealand, and 9 financially also, I am sure, the tour would be a 1 splendid success. The benefit to the Rugby I game in the colonies in consequence of such a I visit would be almost incalculable, and it is to be 1 hoped that favourable arrangements will be ■ made. I It is quite on the cards that at the close of 8 next season an attempt will be made to send a fl New Zealand team Home. I see no reason why 8 a very fair team could aot be got together for I such a trip. Another project of an equally 1 novel nature is also likely to come before ths m notice of New Zealanders before long, but the 1 information I have received is private and con* I fidential, and at present I am not permitted to I give particulars. I The Field, of September 17, says :— " Several I interesting and exciting association games were I played on the previous Saturday. The more I important results were: Dumbarton beat 9' Hibernians by four goals to two goals; 3rd 9 Lanark R.V. beat West Bromwich Albion by I two goals to none ; St. Bernard's beat New- 1 castle West End by four goals to two goals; 1 Queen's Park beat Rangers by four goals to two 1 goals ; Oowlairs beat Cambuslang by five goals 9 to four goals; Dumbarton Athletic beat Kit- 1 marnock by one goal to none ; Abercom beat I Glasgow Northern by 6ix goals to two goals ; I Renfrew beat Arthurlie by four goals to one 8 goal ; St. Mirren beat Port Glasgow Athletic by 8 six goals to two goals ; Vale of Leven beat 8 Dykebar by two goals fco none; and Arbroatb 8 beat 3rd Forfar R.V. by 13 goals to none." 8
