THE WOOL SALES.
♦ (Reuter's Telegrams.) London, November 23. At the opening of the wool sales yesterday there was brisk competition, the prices realised being equal to closing rates of last series. At to-day's wool sales 11,400 bales were catalogued, the market being steady. At yesterday's sale 9000 bales were catalogued. November 24. At the wool auctions to-day 8000 bales were submitted, prices being fairiy maintained. The total withdrawals to date amount to 2000 bales. November 25. At the wool auctions to-day 8200 bales were offered, making a total of 36,f>00 bales submitted since the opening of the series. The market, was steady, and for superfine and finest qualities generally there is a good demand. Novembei 2G. At to-day's wool sales there was good competition for the various lots submitted. The catalogue comprised 8500 bales. ' November 2S. At the wool Pales to-day 9800 bales were catalogued. Prices remain steady. Melbourne, November 24. At the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company's weekly sale to-day, a catalogue of 4650 bales was submitted to auction, of which number 3930 were sold. There was no alteration in prices realised ; good light conditioned wools were very firm. Greasy merinos realised as much as llf d ; crossbreds, 10^ d ; washed wool, 15d ; scoured, 16||d. (Special to Press Association.) London, November 22. Messrs Charles Balme and Co. and Messrs Helmuth Schwnrtze nnd Co", opened the wool sales to-day with 9000 bales. The wool was well selected and representative. There was a full attendance, and the bidding was sustained with spirit, the new clip being keenly competed for. Merinos are at par to £d lower ; crossbreds firm ; Capes to Id lower than the closing rates last sales. For this series 160,000 bales are available. November 23. The wool cargoes by the Rome, Oamaru, Australasian, Hubbuck, Jumna, Port Peria,
Afghan, Kent, lonic, and Lusitania have been included in the present wool sales. November 26. At the wool sales prices are firmly maintained. The reports of the new wool clips are favourable. The N.Z.L. and M.A. Company (Limited) have received the following report from their London office, under date 22nd inst. : — " Wool : The fifth series of sales opened to-day fairiy well at the level of last sales, except short staple scoured merino, for which the market is easier. Attendance of both home and foreign buyers is good, and competition from all sections is fairly active. The sales comprise about 134,000 bales. Ten thousand bales have been sent to the manufactoring districts direct." Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. have received the following cablegram from their London house (Messrs Sanderson, Murray, and Co.), dated the -22nd inst. .—"Sales have opened flat, with large attendance of buyers but poor selection of wools. For faulty scoured the market is weaker, crossbreda show no change, while other descriptions are dull." Messrs Dalgety and Co. have received the following cablegram from their head office, dated London, November 22 :— " Wool sales opened to-day. Moderate selection. Large number of buyers. Competition fairly animated. Prices for the bulk of wools maintained." Also a cable, dated London November 23, which says : — " Wool sales continue firm. Rates reported yesterday fully maintained."
