A SHOCKING TRAGEDY.

A shocking tragedy, which was enacted on the 12th, was discovered at Brisbane ou the following morning. A man who was coming into town along the Toowong road, found three hats on the river bank near the Milton bridge, and shortly afterwards he saw the body of a little eirl iloating down the river. Subsequently the body of a little boy was found near the same place. It appears that a Mrs Davis, with three children, who was said to have been descried by her hubband, and l«ft in fjreab poverty, had been existing for some time, on the charity of friends ami neighbours, and had lately been living with sonic people at Paddingtoa, who Mrs Davis thought had become tired of the children. On the 12th she took the girl, who was aged six years, and the boy, who was only a few months old, leaving a boy of five years with these people, who are named Tudmau, and left the house. Shortly afterwards the following letter was found, signed by Mrs Davis :—" My dear Mrs Tuihnan, — You have been a friend to me, and may God reward you. When >ou bee this I hhall be at tho bottom of the river. I leave Oeorgft with you, if you will let him stay; if iiol, give, him to somebody else. I bad rather you let him stay with you. Good-bye, and God be with you." The letter was placed in the hands of the police, who recovered the body two days atterwards.
