GORE,

October 24.— The principal topic of conversation during the past week has been the charge of perjury heard against Mr Aldridge, solicitor. It was shown tuat the accused really thought that his fees had been paid, as he had more than once spoken about the matter, and had on each occasion been assured that he need not trouble himself— that " it was all right." The trial has brougdfc out the fact, not generally known to laymen, thaL the " black brigade" has a class tax to pay as well as the miuer in the shape of a license fee of £3 8s per annum. Another Legal Luminary for Gork.— While on ''law topics" I might note the advent of another member of the profession during the past few weeks from the metropolis. 'Hie new comer, Mr Stanley Edwards, certainly opens with very fair prospects, and I wish him every success. Mr Edwards— who is an English barristerand solicitor, by-the-way— isthe fourth of the class now settled in our midst, and he appeared in the K.M. Court on the iOth inst. for the first time in this district, making a good beginniug by winning his case. Agricultural.— Although the weather here, as elsewhere, has been extremely boisterous during the past fsw weeks, we do not appear to have suffered so much as some districts. The crops were got in in pretty fair condition, and the mortality among the lambs has not been overpowering. The dairy factory is in full swing, and considering the tremendous fall in fche price of milk, is receiving a fair quantity. Even though the amount received per gallon is small it is steady revenue, and as such is appreciated.
