FOOTBALL IN INVER CARGILL.

The following are the results of the various matches played by the Invercargill Pirates Football Club during the past season : —

From this ifc will be seen that this club has had a most successful season, having played 11 matches, winning nine, losing none, and two being drawn; while they have scored 55 points to their oppouents' six. Eight players were selected from this club to represent Southland in the match with Otago. On the 24th of September they held a fancy dress match, which was a great success, fully 1000 persons witnessing the game. On the evening of the same date the club held a smoke concert. After those present had enjoyed themselves for a couple of hours with songs, &c, the captain presented the secretary (Mr Jos. Wesney) with a gold lockefc as an acknowledgment of the valuable assistance he had rendered the club while holding that office.
