LAND BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Laud Board was held on Wednesday, and attended by Messrs J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), Duncan, Clark, Lo^au, and Dallas. Wakatipu.— The Receiver of Land Revenue asked the board to deal with the land leased to A. Gilbert in block I, Upper Wakatipu, the rents being still in arrear.— Lease forfeited for non-payment of rent. St. Bathan's.— Mr W. L. Simpson, on behalf of John Ewing, made application to purchase 15 acres on Run 228 a, the runholder's consent having been obtained.— Referred to the district land officer for report, iiud application to be advertised. Glknomaku.— Ranger Hughan reported on the application of D. M'Laron to have part of the bush reserve in block I, Glenomaru, opened on perpetual lease. He recommended that the application be refused, as, if granted, the working of Mr Potter's mill would be affected.— Declined. Catlins.— Ranger Hughan recommended that Donald Stewart's application to purchase section 39, block I, Catlins, find section 32, block IX. Gleaomftvu, be granted. The sections were lightly timbered and suitable for settlement.— Granted, subject to survey of necessary roads, &c* Ranger Hughan reported on the application of H. D. Dick to substitute an application for 50 acres in place of one for five acres of land in block I, Catlins, recommending that it be granted.— Application for 50 acres granted, subject to eurvey of necessary road line.

Clabendon. — Thomas J. Innes applied to purchase section 59, block VI, Clarendon (rural lanu), on the deferred payment system.— Declined. I Table Hill.— John Carr, Manuka creek, asked leave to surrender the run license of section 21, \ block V, Table Hill, the present rental being excessive.—Government recommended to accept Burrender. Mount Hyde.— A report was received from Hanger Valpy on an application by John Dean to purchase or lease the quarry reserve, section 18, block 11, Mount Hyde. The Taieri County Council wrote, objecting to the granting of the application, as the reserves were made for specific purposes and could not be interfered with.— Declined. Queenstown.— Ranger Adair reported on the application by W. T. Halnes for a petty site at Queenstown, stating that he saw no objection to the application being granted. Captain Wing, managing • director of the Lake Wakatipu Steamship Company, and W. Turton, on behalf of D. M'Bride, wrote letters, objecting to the granting of such a license. —Declined. Lauder.— An application by John Peters to transfer perpetual lease section 14, block IV, Lauder, to Jane Alexander (wife of Jameß Alexander, postmaster, Ophir) was approved. Bast Gore.— Applications to purchase suburban , land on deferred payment were made and approved of as follows: — Samuel Ritchie, section 9, block XXIII, Bast Gore; Francis Laws^n, section 12, block XXV, do ; D. J. M'Bride. section 17, block XXV, do. Rural Lands.— The following applications for rural deferred payment lands were granted :— George Lindsay, section 29, block IV, Gimmerburn; Peter Flannery, section 8, block XI, Poolburn. Consideration of John Sloan's application tor section 16, block 111, Poolburn, was deferred. Otama.— The following applications to complete the purchase of deferred payment sections were approved :— John Bruce, section 11. block 111, Otama ; Malky Hanley, section 8, block XII, Chatton. Perpetual Leases.— Licenses for perpetual lease sections were granted as follows: — Section 49, block 11, Blackstone— J. Aitkenhead, at Is 3§d per acre (upset Is); sections 18 and 27, block 111, Rock and Pillar— C. J. Trotter, at la (upset); section 16, block V, Tiger Hill— W. M'Bean, at Is 8d (upset Is) ; section 29, block V, Tiger Hill— Mary Ann Glass, at Is 6d (upset Is). Dunkeld.— The following persons were declared the lessees by ballot of small areas in Dunkeld : — Sections 1, 2, 5, and 6, block XXVIII, Alexander Donaldson ; block XXXI, R. Geeves ; sections 1, 2, 7, and 8, block XXXII. R. T. Geeves ; sections 3to 6, block XXXII, I vie Templeton; sections 1 to 6, block XXXIII, G. H. Welsh ; block 36. Thos. Jones ; sections 1, 2, 6, and 7, block XXXVII, J. Cowan; sections 3, 4, 5, and 8, block XXXVII, J. M'Donald ; sections Ito 7, bIock XXXVIII, E. Mills. Waipori. - Consideration of an application by the Perpetual Trustees, for A. Wilson, to surrendersmall grazing run, No. 51, was deferred for a week. Tarkas. — T. Hewston's pprpetual leaße of section 5, block 13, Tarras, was forfeited for non-payment of rent. Wendonside.— John Hurley having made arrangements to complete the purchase of section 6, block I, Wendonside, the resolution of the board regarding the forfeiture of the license was rescinded. R. Craig applied to have sections 66, 67, and 71, block IV, Table Hill, grouped and sold in one lease.— The board found it was too late to make the desired alteration.
