Melbourne, October 18. At Randwick to-day The Australian Peer had a trial over the Melbourne Cup distance with Algerian and beat him. All the money in the market has been taken about Australian Peer for the Cup at 100 to 9. Algerian is quoted at 100 to 20 (taken). Oakleigh, 100 to 10 (taken). 100 to 12 is wanted about Silver Prince. The latest bettiag on the Melbourne Cup is as follows:— 8 to 1 agst Silver Prince; 11 to 1 Oakleigb, 12 to 1 Abercorn, 14 to 1 Australian Peer, 15 to 1 Cranbrook, 20 to 1 Meteor, Silvermine, and Remus, 25 to 1 Spade Guinea. For the V.R.C. Derby even money is laid on Abercorn, 6 to 1 agst Tranter and Australian Peer, 7 to 1 Cranbrook and Enfilade, 8 to 1 Niagara, 20 to 1 any other.
