Store Cflttle. — The market in the meantime iaquiet. There is some inquiry, but, owing to so tew offering, there is no 1 business of any consequence to report. Store Sheep.— There te very lifltle demand now for these ; in fact, there are no suitable lots offering. The small business done is confined to occasional lots for putting oa turnips. For this purpose we have some inquiry fofgftfed cross or halfbred wether*. Country Sales.- H. Ss.- Dbivek (on behalf of the Mutual Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited) reports having held the usual monthly sale nt Balclubha on Friday, August 19, find- sold crossbred sheep at up to Bs, store cattle at up t6> £5 2s 6d, and horses up to £15. Wool.— Returns to hand by the San Francisco mail this week are for the most part very »M»factory to Bhipprersv Rne halfbreda and well-bred combing merino wools seem to have commanded great attention on Americas account, whilst for the home trade good crossbred wools have been in request. Shabby, poor merinos, on the other hand, have been very much neglectcnv and prices for these latter in buyers' favour. Sheepskins.— Monday's sales brought together the usual number of buyers, who were in the best oi spirits, and cleared after good competition the different salesmen's catalogues at advanced rates. Best butchers' crossbred skins (green) brought from 4s to 58 ; medium, 3s 3d to 3s 8d ; merinos, 2s 9d to 3s 8d; country skins, from Is to 4s 4A. Hides.— The market is very weak, due principally to the fact that the market has txivn flooded \rith supplies fromtheNorfch Island. The lottrftanners hold heavy stocks, and until these are reduced they seem disinclined to purchase more. At present, therefore, awaiting a demand the agents hold considerable quantities on hand unsold. Quotations are nominal. Habbitskfas. — There is a brisk demand experienced for well-got-up- paref ully-claased winter greys f in fact, all sorts are in good request, realising prices equal to late quotations. All coming to hand find Sready market. Buyers are prepared to operate to any extent, but are not inclined to advance on the following quotations — say tot suckers and small, 2d to 4d; common and low season, 5d to 8d ; autumn and early winter, 9d to Is 28 f medium to good winter greys, Is 5d to Is 6d ; choicer, ls-7d to> Is 8d ', spot lots a trifle more. Small catalogues were submitted at Monday's sales. Tallow.— The regular demand for local conßCGHption continues anabated, but there is very HMta doing in shipping lines. The London market show» a firmer tone, but although stocks here are no 6 heavy, present prices are uot likely to materially improve before we are advised of a substantial advance on London rates. Wo quote present values as follows:— For inferior and miaed, 10s to 13s; medium to good, 148 to 16s ; good to best, 17s to 18s j rough fat, inferior, 6s to 7s ; medium to good, 8b to 9s ; mutton caul, clean and fresh, 10s to 11s per cwt. Grain.— Wheat : The market during the past week haß not shown any signs of improvement. Sales hsvp been limited to small parcels of choice for mixing* The demand fot flour is not brisk, and as moitof .the millers have stocks on hand' they are n€t>< very eager purchasers, except when they ran» short of particular sorts. Stocks in agents' and farmers' hands are known to be very light, buft in the meantime sufficient for requirements, and realise abont equal to late rates. Bat it is very doubtful whether these could be maintained should a few outside samples be put on the market. We quote prime milling white velvet, 4s to 4s Id; choice red straw and Tuscan, which are not so easily procured, 4s 2d to 4s 3d ; medium to good. 3s 9d to 3* lid ; inferior and fowls' wheat, 3s to 3s 8d (ex store, bags weighed in). Oats : The market during the past week has not been very active, but in most instances, especially bright full sorts fit for shipment,, are held very firmly. A little better demand, although resulting in very few transactions, hsibeen noticed since our last. A few forced Bales are made at rather lower rates, but on the whole there' is little alteration to note in prices, which we quote 1 as follows:— For prime milling, Is B£d to Is 9dp short bright feed, Is 8d to Is BJd ; medium, Is 7jd to Is 8d; inferior to medium, Is 4d to Is 7d; long Tartars and Danish, free from all other mixture, Is9d to 2s (ex store, bags weighed In). Barley could be placed for malting, but in the absence of suitable Biimplea there is little or no business passing. A moderate demand exists for milling and feed, and any lots coming to hand are easily placed. We quote prime malting 4s Id to 4s 4d ; medium, 3& 9d to 4s ; feed and milling, 3s to 3s 8d (ex store).
