RAILROAD DISASTER.
A terrible accident occurred at the crossing of the Grand Trunk and Michigan Central railway, in St. Thomas, Ontario, about 7 o'clock on the evening of July 15, caused by an excursion train on the Grand Trunk from Fort Stanley running into a passing freight train on the Michigan Central, made up of a number of cars laden with oil. This took fire, and the flames were communicated to the excursion train, many of the passengers on which met with a frightful death. The number who perished is stated at 100, and the injured at 40 ; warehouses and dwellings in the vicinity were burned, and the property loss will reach 6000dol. The main cause of the disaster was the failure of the air brakes to work.
