DEATH OF MR C. H. STREET.
Auckland, August 18.
A profound sensation was caused this morning when it became known that Mr C. H. Street, formerly of Dunedin, had died suddenly. The deceased gentleman, who has been remarkable for the good health he enjoyed, took a cold water bath as usual this morning, and on leaving the bath he proceeded to put up a window blind. Mrs Street, who was close at hand, heard him cry out as if in great pain, and saw him dash his hands across his breast. Mr Street complained of having severe pain across his chest, and was assisted to bed in an exhausted state. Mrs Street gave him a little brandy, and -despatched a messenger for Dr Mackellar, but before he could be in attendance Mr Street was dead. The doctor stated that he believed the cause of death was heart disease. The deceased gentleman was at the football match yesterday, and when walking in the vicinity of the ground was startled by a runaway horse, and jumped into the ditch, but appeared to have felt no inconvenience from the shaking thus caused, although it is quite possible that the occurrence may have had an influence upon the subsequent sad event. Mr Street was an enthusiastic yachtsman, and has owned two very fine vessels, the Wenona and the Murita. He leaves a widow and one daughter, the latter the widow of the late Mr Robert Gillies, who was M.H.R for Milton.
Auckland, August 19.
Dr Haines made a post mortem examination of the body of the late Mr C. H. Street, and found that death resulted from aneurism of the heart. From the state of the heart, the wonder is that he lived so long.
