Bank of New Zealand (Blues) v. Combined Banks (Colours).
This annual match was played on the Caledonian ground yesterday afternoon, and after a hard game resulted in a victory for the % Colours by 2 goals to nil. In the first spell it was soon seen that the Blues were overmatched, and it was only owing to the good defensive play of J. H. Morris, C. Branigan, and Harvey that -the Colours, did not score, although J. Bramgan (Colours) once got across the line, but lost the ball. Immediately the second spell was started the Colours rushed the ball into the Blues quarters, and after some give and take play Matheson got a try for the Colours, from which Cotterill kicked a goal. Shortly afterwards Greenwood dashed over the line, and after a maul in goal secured another try, Cotterill again kicking a goal. No further score was made when time was called. In addition to the abovementioned, Gillies, C. Fenwick, Cantrell, and Driver played hard for the Colours, and Thomson, G. Fenwick, and Weldon for the Blues.
