BLUE SPUR.

August 15.— The annual examination of the Blue Spur School took place on Wednesday and Thursday, the 10th and 11th iust., the result beinga fair percentageof passes as usual. In class subjects 64 percent. wa9 gained, while the additional marks amounted to the high' number of 91, one of the highest in the provincial district. The inspectors report that all the work of Class P was well done, that Standard VII had a fair knowledge of the work professed, and that the ordpr, attention, tone, and manners were good throughout the school. Volunteers —The competition for the medals presented by Lieutß Urqnhart and M'Keich took place this week, when Volunteer Anderson was top scorerat 62 (including his handicap), Lieutenant M'Keich 61 (from scratch), Volunteer Gunn, 57 (he made 23 out of a possible 25 at 500 yds). C )lour-sergeant Neill 54 (he made 23 out of 25 at 200 yds), and Volunteer Brookes 53 points. The h ghest scorers at present are:— Volunteer M'Lusky, 11 points; Lieutenant Urquhart and Colour-sergeant Neill, 10point3 each. The firab two who gain 16 points win the trophies.

Draughts.— The match between the VVaitahuna and Lawrence Clubs, which was to have come off on Friday evening, did not eventuate, owing to the inclemency of the weather. It has been postponed for a fortnight. A match between Blue Spur and Lawrence has been arranged for Monday, the 22nd inst.
