TOKOMARIRO.
July 27. — Mr Thomas Cannon haying rwently purchased Mr John Hislop's farm, his fi lends and neighbours resolved to mark the event by giving him a day's ploughing. Wednfs 'ay, the 20th inst., was fixed for the day, andabouf;4o teams turned out ; shortly after 8 a.m , all were at work, each determined to do his utmost and turn over as much as possible in a workmanlike manner. Viewing the
field of operation from an eminence, the scene -was an animated and picturesque one— over 100 horses and 40 men at work as busy as bees. At the close of the day it was reckoned that a little over 70 acres had [been ploughed ■ During the day a large number of people visited the ground, to whom aud also to the 'ploughmen Mr Cannon dispensed 1 hospitality with a lavisfj hand. Before dispersing, Mr Cannon in a' few appropriate remarks thanked them for the very valuable assistance rendered to him in making a start on hiß new farm.
