RIVERSDALE.
July 19. — On Friday last the seventh annual ploughing match under the aupices of the Waimea Plains Ploughing Match Association took place on a lea paddock kindly lent by Mr John Hall for tho occasion. There was a very good attendance of the public, and no less than 21 competitors mustered for the contest. The weather was fairly good, and the work in general was considered by the judges (Messrs Paget and Cullen) as excellent. A pleasing feature on the occasion was the warm hospitality to those on the ground evinced by Mr Hall. In the evening about 50 gentlemen sat down to an excellent supper in the hall (prepared by Mr J. Green), Mr H. S. Valentine in the absence of the president, Mr F. W. Ibbotson (occupying the chair) the usual loyal and other toasts were given and responded to, and, with a few songs interspersed, a very pleasant evening was brought to a close by the singing of " Auld Lang Syne."
