The position varied considerably during the race. On reaching the back of , the course on the last round Mangahone came with a rush and took premier position, while Orient was a length frpm him, second^ Romeo third. The next jump was taken in the tame order, but after this Mangabone came away with ease at every stride, and led the field over the last .two* hurdles, coming past the stand full of running^ and winning easily by four or five lengths from Orient.
