THE COLONIAL WOOL SALES.

(Reuter's Telegrams.) London, June 9. At the wool sales to-day there was a fair demand shown. The catalogua comprised 8700 bales. Since the opening of the series 3000 bales have been withdrawn. June 10. At to-day's wool sales a slightly ■ firmer tone was manifested. The catalogue offered comprised 10,300 bales. June 12. : At the colonial wool sales to-day lI,OOQ bales were offered. A fair demand was shown in all classes. June 13. ■ At the wool sales to-day 8700 bales were offered. The market was steady, but the demand was not active. * June 14. - At to-day's colonial wool auctions 12,600 bales were offered. Prices we're firmly maintained. (Special to Pbess Association.) i The wool sales are progressing spiritedly. Merinos are from par to below last rates,and the crossbreds are below the April' rates. The number of bales catalogued was • 54,000, of which 3500 wee withdrawn.

The British and New Zealand Mobtgage and Agency Co. have received the following wool telegram from Messrs Helmuth' Schwartze and Co., dated London, 7th inst.:—;

" The sales opened with large attendance of both Home and foreign buyers. Competition is ; animated. Merino wool is lower ; crossbred ' Id lower. Total available, including old stocks,. 350,000 bales." A further telegram on the 10th says : — " Sales continue animated. Opening rates are fully maintained. Prices are scarcely lower than close of last series."

"The third series of colonial wool sales opened to-day with moderate selection of wool, usual number of buyers, aud competition fairly animated. Prices compared with closing rates of last series are as follow: — Greasy merinos, scarcely maintained ; scoured merinos show a decline of |d to f d per lb ; coarse crosssbreds show a decline of £d to Id per lb; fine and medium show.a decline of id per lb." A cablegram on the 10th states that the sales continue active and competition is brisk.

Messrs DALGETr and Co. have received 'the following telegram from their head office, dated London, 7th inst. : —

Messrs Mprra?, Roberts, and Co. have received the following cablegram from their London house, dated 7th inst.'.—

" Sales have opened with a good attendance of buyers, good competition, and a fair selection of wools. Market rates have declined— for coarse crossbreds 5 to 10 per cent., fine crossbreds and greasy merino a shade, and scoured merino 2J to 5 per cent." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following telegram from their London office, dated 10th inst:— " The sales progress firmly. Superior greasy merino and merino lambs, market . unchanged ; faulty merino lambs, market easier. Medium and inferior greasy merino has declined §dper lb since close of last sales ; combing washed do |d per lb do ; clothing do do Jd to Id per lb do ; scoured do £d to ld< do ; fine greasy crossbred, market easier ; fine washed do has declined id per lb since close of last sales ; fine scoured do do Ad to Id do ; , course do do to Id do ; washed do do Id do. Up to date 28,000 bales have been sold."

The New' Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following telegram from their London office, date\l 14th inst.;— "Wool j Competition is increasing and the market is firmer. Since the opening of the sales crossbred aud superior scoured merino have advanced 4d per Ib. Up to date nearly 58fi00 bales have been sold."
