THE LABOUR MARKET.
Mr Skene reports under date Juiie 1 • —
Winter prospects are very dreary. Employers of labour have no hearfc to launch forth with new works. Farmers have no encouragement to go on with improvements, for after reaping a bountiful crop, they find their profits nil. Wages continue as follow: — Farm labourers, 15s ; first ploughmen, 20s ; second class, 15s and 17s 6d ; station and farm couples, £60 to £70 ; milkers. Ss, 10s, 12s, 15s, and superior, 20s ; grooms, gardeners and milkers, 20s and 255; station carpenters, 255 ; bushmen, 4s, ss, and 6s per cord. This is the dull time with shepherds.
