THE SYDNEY MARKETS.
Messrs Moet and Co. report as follows under date Sydney, May 27 :—
Wool. — In the absence of public sales there is little to report under this head. Private inquiry continues active, but arrivals are limited, and confined principally to odd lots of scoured. Quotations :— Scoured fleece. 15d to lHd ; scoured skin wool, lOd to 16d ; scoured locks and pieces, 7d to 14d ; greasy fleece, good, 8d to 9§d ; faulty and medium, 5d to 7§d; greasy lambs, free, 6§d to B£d; seedy, 3|d to 5d ; washed fleece, lid to 14d. SheepsWns.— Demand is brisk, especially for good clean butchers' skins, for which exporters are eagerly competing. Best butchers' merinos may be quoted 23d to 36d each, a few extra large having reached to 38d thiß week ; small, 15d to 24d; lambs, 18d to 32d ; Cfossbreds, 20d to 33d each. Dry station skins from 6Jd per pound downwards, according to growth and condition.
Leather. — There was a fair supply of leather at our sale this week, and kip advanced about jd per lb. Quotations : Sole at from 7f dto 9jd ; heavy, up to 10|d; harness, 10|d to 12§d ; kip, 13dtol6|d; basils, os to 10s per dozen ; bag, 63 to 10s per side. Tallow. — At the sale to-day there was less disposition on the part of shippers to do business, owing chiefly to decline in London market. We cleared our catalogue at auction ab from £15 10s to £18 2s 6d per ton for mixed and beef tallow. Hides. — We found the market fully up to last week's rates, especially for extra heavies, which we sold up to 4|d per lb, and quote heavies at from 3£d to 4d ; medium, 3ifd to 3rd ; light and dry, 3ld to 4jdperlb. Horse Hides. — We disposed of every line offered at from 3s 8d to 7s 3d, acaording_to size and conconditlon.
Hair.— We quote horsetail at from 13|d to 15|d ; mane, 9d to lid ; mixed, lOd to 12d ; cow stumps, 6d to 8d per lb.
Hornß.— Large sizes, 28s to 345 ; medium, 17s to 25s ; small, 6s to 15s ; and tips. Is 6d to 5s 6d per 100. Grain.— Wheat : Best lines are scarce, and worth 3s lOdto -Is ; fowls' wheat, 2a Od to 3s. Oats from 2s to 2s 3d. Bran and pollard, 9|d to lOd. Maize in brisk demand from 3s to 3s 2d per bushel for best lines.
