WEEKLY STOCK AND PRODUCE REPORT. Wednesday, Junb 8.
Fat Cattle.— 2ll head were yarded for the week's requirements, chiefly prime quality, the remainder fair to good. This proved rather a large supply for butchers' wants. Bidding was somewhat slack, and prices hardly reached last week's quotations, except for very prime pens ; consequently a number of lots were passed. Best • bullocks brought from £7 to £8 10s; medium to good, £3 7s 6d to £3 10s ; cows, £2 10s to £7 10s.— H. M. Driver (on behalf .of the Mutual Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited) sold on account of Messrs l'odd Bros. (Mosgiel), 5 bullocks at £5 ss, and 4 cows at from £3 12s 6d to £4 ; on account Mr John Blackie (East Taieri), 4 cows at up to £3 15s ; on account Mr John Bathgate ( Janefteld),2 cows at £7 2s 6d and 3 bullocks at £6 6s ; on'account of Mr James Brown (East Taieri), 1 cow at £7 15s and 8 bullocks at from £5 5s to £6 10s ; on account of Mr llobert Gawn (Mosgiel), 5 cows at from £4 7s 6d to £5 ; on account ot Mr J. J. MAuley (Portobello). 2 cows at up to £4 10s ; on account of Messrs Kobert Todd (Mosgiel), Joseph Early (Kalkorai), Thos. Godfrey, J. M'Meekan, and Wm. Clucas, 10 cows at up to £5 2s 6d.— Donald Stbonach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company. Limited) sold on account of several vendors, cows at from £4 5s to £5 2s 6d. — Wright,' Stephenson, and Co.' sold 70 head as follows : —On account of Mr Andrew Grant (Temuka), 6 bullocks at £6 12s 6d to £8'10s; on account of Mr P. H. M'Shane (Winchester), 6 bullocks at £6 7s 6d to £8 2s 6d ; on account of Mr M. Quinn (Temuka), 7 bullocks at £6 17s 6d to £7 17s 6d ; on account of Messrs B. Campbell and Sons, Limited (Station Peak), 12 bullocks at £5 5s to £6 10s ; on account Mr William Hastie (Grey town), 6 bullocks at £5 5s to £6 ss ; on account Mr John Bathgate ( Janeneld), 4 bullocks at £5 5s to £ri 12s 6d ; on account of Mr Robert Charters (Ury Park), 6 bullocks at £5 5s to £6 ; and on account of Mesßrs Mcc Bros. (Brighton), T. Godfrey, E. Fitzpatrick, and others, 23 head at quotations. — Donald Keid and Co. yarded 107 head, and sold as follows:— For Mr Andrew Grant (Temuka), 12 prime bullocks at £8 to £8 17s 6d— averaging £8 10b; for Messrß M'Govein and Hardy (The Hook, Waimate), 12 prime bullocks at £7 7s 6d to £3 15s— averaging £8; for Messrs Murray, Boberts, and Co. (Gladbrook), 15 bullocks at £7 2a 6d to £8, 15 prime heifers to £6 7s 6d ; for Messrs Mosley Brothers (Inch Olutha), 10 bullocks at £7 2s 6d to £8, and 3 cows at £4 5s to £5 ss ; for Mr W. T. Shand (Otakia), 20 bullocks at £5 7s 6d to £6 ss ; for Mr John Grey (Waihola Gorge), 6 heifers at £4 7s 6d to £5 17s 6d ; for Mr Eicbard Cragie (Taieri Ferry), 9 bullocks at £4 10s : for others, 3 cows.
Fat Sheep.— A very small supply came forward today, viz., 1593, consisting of 125 merino v.ebhers, fair to good quality, the remainder being crossbreds, consisting chiefly of good quality. Bidding was brisk, and prices showed a slight advance on those of last week's quotations. Best crossbred wethers brought from 8s 9d to 10s 3d ; ordinary, 7s to 8s 6d ; beet do ewes, 7s 9d to 9s 9d ; ordinary, 6s to 7s 6d; merino wethers, 4s to 6s 6d, — H. M. DKCVKB (on behalf of the Mutual Agency Company of New Zealand. Limited; sold, on account ot Mr George Anderson (Stirling) and pothers, crossbred ewes at up to 7s 3d.— L. Maclean (on behalf of the British and New Zealand Mortgage and Agency Company, Limited) •old for the executors of the late Mr Studholme (Wai mate estate) 123 crossbred ewes at Bs to 8s 3d ; for Mr W Cunningham (Mosgiel), 50 crossbred wethers at 78 9d ; and for Mr H. Heckler (Warepa), 42 crossbred ewes from 9s 9d to 10s,' and 673 store merinos and crossbreds at satisfactory prices. — Whisht, Stephenson, and Co. sold 1123 as follows : On account of Mr James Allan (Hopehill), 80 Leicester ewes at 9s 9d, and 35 crossbred ewes at6s6d; on account of Mr David M'Kellar (Brooksdale estate), 300 crossbred ewes at 8s to 9s 3d; on account of Mr John Douglas (Waihao Downs), 75 merino wethers at 6s 6d ; on account of Mr Godrey Foster (Milburn), 35 crossbred ewes at 6s 6d to 8s ; on account of Mr James Wilson (Verulam), 56 crossbred ewes at 8s ; on account of Mr James M'Gill (Waikouaiti), 166 crossbred 'ewes at 6s 9d to 7s 3d; on account of Messrs W. and N. Beid (Broorafield Mains), 268 halfbred wethers at 7s to 8s 3d, and 52 merino ewes at 4s 6d ; and on account of Mr John Campbell, 56 prime halfbred wethers at 9s 3d to 9s 9d. — Donaud Heed and Co. sold for Mr William Grant (Elloughton Grange), 62 prime halibred wethers at 10s ; for Mr William Grey (Milburn), 32 prime crossbred ewes at 9s 6d ; for Mr P. Williamson (Waihola Gorge), 29 prime crossbred ewes at 9s 9d ; for Mr John Thomson, 22 crossbred wethers at 9s 9d ; for Mr M. Baxter (Wingafcui), 43 quarterbreds at Bs. Fat Lambs.— 22o being penned to-day, this ptoved enough for butchers' requirements, at prices ranging from 6s 3d to 7s 3d.— Whight, Stephknson, and Co} sold 149 as follows :— On account of Mr James Allan (Hopebill), 82 aft 7s ; and on account of Mr James M'Gill (Waikouaiti), 67 at 6s 3d.— Donaxd Beid and Co. sold for Mr Thomas Henderson (Otepopo), 70 at 68 9d. Pigs.— Only 89 yarded— a very small supply ; consequently bidding was firmer, and prices slightly in advance. Suckers brought 7s 6d ; ordinary, 18s to 245; porkers. 20s to 295; baconers, 35s to 48s.— L. Maclean (on behalf of the British and New Zealand Mortgage and Agency Company, Limited) sold 7 baconers from 38s to 48s.— Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold 77 as follows :— Heavy weight bacon pigs, 35s to 48s ; and porkers at 18s to 24s. — DonaldTJeid and Qo. sold some small consignments at quotations.
Store Cattle. — The business doing is small, and prices remain about the same as last week's quotations, only a few small lots changing hands for turnipping purposes at up to £5. Store Sheep.— A few inquiries exist for young crossbred sheep, bat the demand is limited, and we
cannot quote"any alteration' in last week's report. — . H. M. Driver (on behalf Mutual Agency Company) reports having sold 1000 crossbreds at Te Houka, mixed ages, at satisfactory .prices. — Donaxd Reid, and Co. sold privately during' the week 3000 crossbred ewes ; also by auction at Eomahapa 1000 crossbreds. mixed ages and sexes. ' • -'* * V v Sheepskins.— The local sales were held on Monday, and good catalogues offered. Bidding was firm and prices snowed a slight advance on those of last; week, green skins being most in demand. All clause* are, saleable, but - heavy weights free from outs, Ac. are in most demand. Inferior and hulls', ljd to 2d'; light; 2|d to 2s& ; medium,,23d to 3Jd ; heavy, 3Jd to 4jd. Tallow. — There is no alteration to. report. 1 ' Prices remain the same as last weeYs quotations. A fair . demand exists, and. consignments coming .forward are taken up by local buyers. For best mutton, 16s to' 19s 6d ; medium to good, 14s to 15s ; inferior and mixed, 10s to 14s. Bough fat— lnferior, 7s to 8s; medium to good, 9s to 10s per cwt.
