ISLA BANK (SOUTHLAND).
June 4. — Ploughing has commenced on several farms, the weather being favourable. We fiad frost last night. The Depression.— Mr John Walker read a paper on this subject at the last meeting of the Mutual Improvement Association. A debate on the question whether Home or colonial life is the more enjoyable followed. The decision proved to be in favour of the latter by a large majority. Lecture. — The Rev. J. Niven gave a lecture in the church on Tuesday evening, on the manners and customs of lands without the Bible, and the superstitions and cruelty of the heathen. There was a good attendance considering the unfavourable state of the weather.
