IMPORTATION OF STOCK.
The Committee on the Importation of Stock report that they have taken the opinion of several agricultural aad pastoral associations and well-known stockowners in different parts of the colony as to opening New Zealand ports for the importation of foreign stock, and have communicated through the Government with the Australian Governments to learn their intentions with regard to the opening of Australian parts. Great diversity of opinion on the subject exisits, and no agreement as yet has been come to on the subject between the Australian colonies. The committee recognises the advantages which this colony now enjoys in its immunity from those contagious diseases common in Britain and elsewhere, but on the other hand it is alleged by some that the importation of new blood may be of immense importance to the general welfare of the country. The committee is of opinion that further consideration of this very important subject of the importation of stock other than horses should be postponed until next session, and that it is not advisable for this colony under any circumstances to decree it without simultaneous action in the same direction on the part; of the principal Australian colonies ; and further, is of opinion that no necessity exists for keeping New Zealand ports closed against the importation of horses, provided sufficient quarantine is enforced. The report was referred to the Government for consideration. INDUSTRIES AND MANUFACTURES COMMITTEE.
This committee, to whom had been referred the correspondence of manufacturers, &c, with the '.view of making a selection for publication, to-day reported that on reconsideration they recommend that the correspondence on industries and manufactures be not printed this session.
