The annual meeting of the Dunedin branch of the Otago Educational Institute was held at the Normal School on Saturday morning. Mr J. Reid (president) occupied the chair, and there were about a dozen members present.
The annual report submitted by the secretary (Mr A. Pirie) showed that eight meetings had been held during the past 12 months, that six essays had been read thereat, and that the average attendance of members was 15. The statement of accounts showed a credit balance of £13 6s.
Mr White, in moving the adoption of the report, expressed his pleasure at the good attendance during the year, which favourable result he considered was due to the meetings being advertised. Some very interesting papers had been read during the year, and they had evoked some lively discussion. The motion for the adoption of the report was carried unanimously.
On the motion of Mr Milne, a vote of thanks was passed to the president and secretary for their services during the year. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year : — President, Mr E. Ohilton ; secretary, Mr Pirie; delegate to the Otago Educational Institute, Mr Reid. It was resolved that the annual meeting of the institute should be held on the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of Jubilee week.
