A CURE FOI* CANCEK. '

(Ararat (Victoria) Advertiser,- May 13.)

There is, perhaps, no ill the human flesh is Heir to -of a more' distressing, painful, and i obstinate -nature than cancer — a, morbid alteration of tissue which has the power to cause tlie reproduction of growths similar to itself. • Without entering into the pathology qf this .dreaded and maglignant disease, we think that, we may- with safety aver that it .baffles alike | the knowledge and experience of ithe physician and the skill of the surgeon. Any means of cure, is, therefore, worthy of .being carefully noted,, and- should be exten-. sively and fully investigated, more especially in view of thegreat and apparently extending 'prevalence of thediseaseintbis country. Some 'two years ago. we extracted, from, the Eural >2JTew;York an article ■ relating to;" ah alleged ciancer cure," and as a, case in which 1 it, has/ been tried has come under, our personal observation; we are able to 1 give some testimony to its merits ; indeed, we do so at the solicitation t of the, person who ventured upon the f' :periirient; ' rhe patient' referred to is Mr arry Hastings, . of, Cathcarb, who will be Known- to • many ' in this 1 neighbourhood as a resident of this district fora, period of about "$X,t Hastings, who is over J 64 years ■of age, felt ill "some two years ago when at Warracknabeal (at which place he' has some property), and he' 1 sought medical advice, and was informed ' that he Was suffering from cancer in the, stomach. Not satisfied; with the diagnosis of one doctor,; Mr , 'Hastings sought the advice of others, and •during two years was treated, by medical gentlemen -in this town, in the Wimmera district, Creswick and elsewhere, the seven doctors who had his' case in their hands agreeing that it was one' of cancer. He was informed that nothing could be done to cure him, and he was in October .last brought to his home at Cathcart to die. He was suffering" acute agony and could not stand,, up ; indeed, for five months he was confined to bed and watched night and day, not having the power to- sit up, and being unable to sleep except far brief intervals, when repose was induced by artificial means. .Ait length a lady at Warracknabeal, who , had read the extract from the ; Rura! New York, sent him a copy of if, and he got the prescription made up at Warracknabeal, .by a chemist named Mr Woolcot, who, however, advised him'not to take the mixture, as the quantity of mercury it; contained would be dangerous. ' He would be salivated,' his teeth would 'become loosened, his gums swollen, and his flesh flaccid. ' Aware tha he was dying, he, however, determined to venture on the prescription. * . He' took the first dose eight, weeks ago, and to the surprise qf himself and family , that night he slept well, obtaining the first night's natural rest he had enjoyed for months. For months previous he Jiad been taking a bottle of brandy per day, and though <he' had never been a man given to drink it took not the slightest'effect upon him ; and his only food was broth, eggs, | and brandy. The medicine was persevered with, and in two week's the' patient was up and at work, completely surprising all who knew 1 him in Ararat ' by one day walking in ,and giving^ most' unmistakable proof of his , agility and' activity. He now takes the . medicine /only twice each week. He has a/ splendid appetite, his , flesh" and teeth are firm ; .arid, strange to 'say;, half a nobbier of .i bjandy is at once felt in 'his .head. Before arid sinee>the radical change in His condition he has been visited by various resident ministers of 'religion, who can testify to the rapid and astonishing improvement he has i iriade, and also by medical gentlemen who have not hesitated to express their surprise at the change apparent; We can personally, and' with great confidence, vouch for ttjefact that two' months ago Mr Hastings' was to all 'intents and purposes a dying man, for whom medical science' held out nobope or. recoyeryV and' when in this office on Tues-' ' day'lasit'he wa!s very; much alive, arid we are glad/ to\b'e able to state \ looking well and strong, and we should imagine with years of useful life, still Jbef ore him. 'As the remedy which has had such/ a potent effect, upon him may be> of yalue to others, we make no ,excus6 for'rep'roduoing .the'extfact again in fi(ll, !; whM is, as' follows ':-f f( Alleged Cancer Cure! '"!A' lady contributor to the" Rural New York writes: — 'Four years ago I learned a j remedy for cancer. Which I have never known to fail in effecting a cure. It came Ito my knowledge in this, manner : — A lady, ; at whose house I was stopping, had a sister whose face was terribly disfigured, the nose being ' almost entirely fgone' and the throatso, much eaten away that the, girl could' not speak r in a, way intelligible to any but these accustomed to hef. The sores were all healed, and had been;- for years, and there was now no appearance of eruptions,, or any "r" r impurities of the blood. She was so disfigured' that it would have almost seemed a mercy not to have saved her life, but she was an J example of what the J medicine could' effect. ' While I was at this lady's' house 1 met a gentleman, who I happened tb know' had. been afflicted with' a cancer, '.which lias caused' him much anxiety. He 'had recently, spent BOEqe time in New " York 'under the treatment of a celebrated cancer .dqctoiy but without, obtaining relief. I informecLthe lady of these facts, and she gave him this receipt. This was four years .ago. I ; saw the gentleman a. few months since and inquired about the cancer. The" .reply -was, V'OH, it gives me 'no trouble; if I have any fear of it I take/ a little of | Mrs S.s medicine, , and it is all right.". , I 'have an -aunt between. 50, and 60 years old, wh» has an internal cancerous tumour, causing her much suffering and rendering her for -much of the time, unable to work. She has been treated by many eminent physicians, and has spent hundreds of dollars, but; all to little purpose.' For the last few months she had been taking the .medicine, and says she has not been so well for years. I might mention other cases, 'but perhaps these will be sufficient. I have v never" known it to fail in a single instance to cure impurities' of the- blood, whether cartcer-

ous f or^otherwise. * I 'wish I cobfd inspire >* in others the confidence which I feel, for I am sure it would mitigate a vast amount of suffering. r Cancer cure,:^2pz of sulphur/ £o'z of quicksilver, loz of bream of tartar, 1 of saltpetre. » Put into a pint of molasses, stir, take a tablespoonful before goinf to bed. For outside application : ■ One: bottle of British oil, loz of red precipitate. The sulphur and quicksilver must be tharotlghly mixed for along time in a druggist's n^ortarv and then the other ingredients added. ,,- 1 - wish, this could be, published in every paper in the land, and that in after years I , could have the satisfaction of knowing that many have been saved from horrible suffering and, death by its /use." „ ■ , _t.
