CYCLING.

Con. Dwyer has been once more the head and front of serious perturbation in the minds, of amateur , wheelmen. The New South Wales Cyclists' Union refused to endorse the action. oft the Victorian Union disqualifying, Dwyer as an amateur, and immediately an affidavit was produced, signed by Mr R. James, in effect, that a large sum (over £70) had been paid to Dwyer through his trainer as, fees for riding in the mixed contest. Last Monday night a meeting of the, N.S.W.C.U. was held* in Sydney to investigate the matter, when Con Dwyer presented a statutory declaration made by himself, on the 23rd inst. before a notary, denying having ever received money in any form for his services. He and Mr Bale were examined at considerable length. Mr Fairland testified that in i paying the £75 to Robert Lee, as mentioned in James's declaration, he (Fairland) did not understand that any of it wan to go to Dwyer. It was acknowledged that Dwyer's training expenses were paid for the .February test matches, but the executive admitted that many Sydney amateurs had their travelling and other ex* penses paid on several occasions. The executive found, by four votes to one, that the charges against Dwyer were not sustained. It is such little imbroglios as these that prove what a magnificent country Australia really is. , As the Irishman says, "Devil a doubt of it." We can produce such splendid Racehorses, such splendid Rowing Men, such splendid Athletes, such splendid Cricketers, such splendid Footballers, and oh ! such Splendid Liars.
